I almost wrote a poem last night

I almost wrote a poem last night
But my pen was too weak to write
Line of the state of our nations
Houses of Greens and Reds, echoes of Hi’s and Nay’s

I almost wrote a Poem last night
Of sermons the Church ought to preach
Our Pulpit, Collars, Robes, and Hymns
Life lessons learnt, we did not teach.

I almost wrote a Poem last night
About my “Kaki lover” who goes to war
For the pride and sovereignty of his nation
But of his glory and praise we do not sing

I almost wrote a Poem Last night
Of the songs of my teacher not chorused
But for the white chalk and blackboards
My pen, keyboard will not be Skillful to play.

I almost wrote a poem last night
Only because I wish I knew the line.
Like Hind’s feet the verses skip. Only,
A poem, I almost wrote last night, for YOU.
