Simon Ateba a Lagos-based journalist and a graduate of The Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos was seized and arrested by Cameroonian government. He was accused of spying for Boko Haram. Simon Ateba has been denied access to food or his medication and his where-about cannot be ascertained in Cameroon for over 72 hours.
Ateba, a Cameroonian who has worked as a journalist in Nigeria for over a decade, was arrested on Friday ,the 29th of August 2015, at the Minawao refugee camp and taken to Makolo in the far north of Cameroon and has been accused of spying for the Boko Haram insurgency group which is waging a Jihadist was in the north east Nigeria.
His sole aim was to investigate the conditions of Nigerian refugees camped in the country’s far north as he received a grant from the International Centre for Investigative Reporting, Abuja, to investigate the ordeals and suffering of Nigerians who fled into Cameroon as their communities came under sustained attacks from the extremist Boko Haram sect.
